Staff problems at the caterer: Lufthansa passengers without meals

Lufthansa currently no longer offers catering in economy class on some European flights from Frankfurt.

The reason for the failure of the fee-based service with food and drinks are personnel problems at the service provider Gate Gourmet, which “Der Spiegel” reported on Friday.

Business class passengers, like all guests on long-haul flights, receive their meals, Lufthansa announced in Frankfurt on request. On the European flights affected by the cancellations, there is only one bottle of water in the cheapest booking class.

The Lufthansa Group had sold its catering division LSG Skychefs to the Swiss Gategroup. A Gategroup spokesman confirmed on Friday that there had been wage cuts and accounting problems for some employees during the transition. Currently there is a lack of specially trained drivers to bring the food to the aircraft.

The service provider also offered a “summer bonus” of 250 euros at the Frankfurt station for all employees who called in sick for a maximum of one day in April. It should be paid with the next salary.
