Staden files objection to nitrogen agreement
The municipality understands that the nitrogen problem has an impact on people and nature. But the provisional agreement affects many farmers, while Staden also sees other causes for the problem, such as industry. That is why the municipal council proposes to the municipal council to submit a notice of objection during the public inquiry. Francesco Vanderjeugd, Mayor of Staden: The municipality and the farmers do not deny the problem. They know that efforts have to be made. That is what they do. Today, however, a great deal of effort is required. Too much. Which is an enormous impact for our farmers and horticulturists.”
The mayor hopes that the signal from a rural municipality will be listened to. “As a municipality, it is important to send a signal to the Flemish Government. Certainly also to show that we should not do gold plating in Flanders. That means that we do more than other European countries. That has an impact on the economy, but also on food security and security of supply.”
