Stad & Esch provisional base for teachers of the former Scala Arts Center

It is still unclear how long they can continue to teach at Stad & Esch. But at least the group is already happy with this interim solution. “Fortunately, there are some drum sets, keyboards, pianos and guitars, but for the most part you have to bring your own instruments. Fortunately, most students have their own instrument, but sometimes it will be improvised. The school does have a very nice dance hall, which helps also.”

There are two collectives, because Scala was also active in the municipalities of De Wolden and Hoogeveen. The teachers there also continue together as one collective. “We aim to start classes again next week,” spokesperson Gerrit-Jan Rutgers said. “Tomorrow we will make a final decision, but it looks good.”

In De Wolden, the lessons take place at locations that are already rented. “Think of rooms in schools, where we used to work. In Hoogeveen we will continue in Het Podium and De Tamboer. We are very happy that we can at least finish the school year in this way.” The collectives are still discussing how to proceed after the summer with the municipalities.
