A day after the stabbing after a hockey party, chairman Jan de Ruijter of Hockey Club Waalwijk tells his story. The former chairman (not Jan) and his wife were attacked by a group of unknown boys on Friday night after the woman accidentally hit a scooter. When members of the hockey club came to help, things got out of hand.
A party was going on at the hockey club as part of the 75th anniversary. Things went wrong when the former chairman and his wife went home. “The woman accidentally hit a scooter at a narrowing of a path,” says Jan.
“Those guys, who were not involved in the party and have no link with the club, were in the way. She wanted to pass and hit the scooter very lightly, with the child seat. Then she kicked off her bike and was crushed beaten. The former chairman then stood up for his wife. He was also beaten. Then they called people from the club. They came and then stabbed.”
One member was stabbed in the neck, the other was hit in the leg. According to De Ruijter, the wound on the victim who was hit in the neck is not deep. “He was able to go home with a few stitches.” The person who was stabbed in the leg was seriously injured. “But the most important thing is that they are doing well now. We are very happy with that.”
“We have now arranged some more security.”
The outburst of violence happened about five hundred meters from the hockey complex. The chairman calls it ‘very sad’ what happened on Friday night. “But we as a hockey club cannot do anything about this at all. This is a blemish on our great anniversary weekend. We are very disappointed about this. We organized a fantastically beautiful party here. We worked on it for half a year with fifteen people. also continue as usual. The party for adults, for former members and so on will take place on Saturday evening. Friday was mainly a party for the youth. We already had a lot of security guards, now we have arranged some more security.”
