The structures of the complex of protective measures in St. Petersburg were opened more than 10 years ago – in August 2011, since that time they have been used to prevent flooding for 29 times, the directorate noted.

In the management of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the city warnedthat the water level in the Neva can rise to unfavorable levels, the “ice field” will be destroyed, the wind speed will increase to 15-20 m/s.

In St. Petersburg flood counts exceeding the water level of 160 cm. When the water level reaches 200 cm, 6% of the total area of the city will be flooded. Between 308 and 327 floods have occurred since the founding of St. Petersburg and prior to the start of the use of the complex of protective measures in the city. It is impossible to establish the exact number of floods, because “there was a period in history when it was forbidden to inform citizens about the rise in the water level in the Neva,” the KZS directorate indicates.
