St. Pauli makes history with victory in Heidenheim

FC St. Pauli made second division history with its winning streak and further increased its chances of returning to the Bundesliga.

The Hamburgers prevailed in the top game at 1. FC Heidenheim 1-0 (1-0) and celebrated their tenth success in a row – they set the record of Karlsruher SC from the 1986/87 season.

The gap to the promotion relegation place, which Heidenheim now occupies, reduced to four points for coach Fabian Hürzeler’s team. Due to the first home defeat of the season, FCH fell behind Hamburger SV, who had won 6-1 against Hannover 96 in the afternoon.

Marcel Hartel (41st) gave St. Pauli a surprising lead as the hosts increasingly dominated the game and created chances.

Heidenheim had more of the game in the first half and several good opportunities thanks to striker Tim Kleindienst. But after a throw-in by Leart Paqarada, Hartel scored in the corner to make it 1-0 for the guests.

After the break, the hosts tried to increase the pressure. Kleindienst just missed the long corner (67th). Substitute David Otto hit the crossbar on the other side (76′).
