“Squid Game” Season 2 is coming in 2024: First clip and photos released

The hype surrounding the first season of the Korean series “Squid Game” was huge. Now Netflix has confirmed that the sequel will be released in 2024. There is no specific start date yet. Nevertheless, the streaming giant is already providing an insight into the upcoming episodes from director Hwang Dong-hyuk.

Short recap: What was the first season about again?

Here’s a very short summary, after all, everyone’s “Squid Game” series marathon was probably almost three years ago (warning, minor spoilers).

It tells the story of Gi-hun – a man addicted to gambling and heavily in debt who accepts a mysterious invitation to a game where a lot of money is at stake. He is then taken to a secret location along with 455 other people. Once there, under the supervision of masked staff, they don’t just start rolling dice or something similar – they start deadly games. These are based on Korean children’s games and the losers are killed immediately. Of course it gets heated, but Gi-hun actually manages to win the final round and collect the prize money of 45.6 billion won. We’d rather leave it open as to what happens afterwards so as not to take away the joy of binging.

What awaits us: First clip and photos

Although an official trailer is still pending, Netflix has already released a first clip with excerpts from the series. This provides an insight into the formats of 2024. The first moving images of the second season of “Squid Game” can be seen from minute 2:49.

Revenge as a central focus

The new episodes will seamlessly follow on from what has been seen before, as main actor Lee Jung-Jae confirmed in an interview with “Ilgan Sports” in 2023. The press release also states that Gi-hun has to make a momentous decision and “goes on a chase after a mysterious phone call.” Further details are currently pending.
