The Sindicat d’Habitatge denounces that the Cabanyal building in which there are now 12 families belongs to the Generalitat and was in disuse

Twelve families from Valencia have been squatting for a week Block of homes owned by the Generalitat Valenciana, to solve the “emergency housing situation & rdquor; who lived. It’s about a building located in the Cabanyal and that it was “disused & rdquor ;.

This is confirmed by Housing Union of Valenciawho has supported this action and ensures that, with squatting, these families have access “to a home& rdquor;. Among other things, the union -which asks for support so that these families can stay in the block- denounces that “no government or state institution & rdquor; solve the housing problem, and they are “incapable of improving living conditions & rdquor; of the most vulnerable population.

In this sense, through a statement that they have published, they affirm that in many neighborhoods, “reality is increasingly critical & rdquor ;, either “by an increase in rental prices, by speculation by small or large holders or by macro-projects promoted by the institutions & rdquor; which, in the end, ends up leaving many families without a home.

According to the union, the families moved into the five-story block -with 12 houses and built in the 90s- last Monday and claim its “opening& rdquor;, because, despite being public housing, they were without tenants.

Apparently, they could be homes that were going to be used for battered women, although the union denounces that the Administration never came to give it that use and that It had been “closed for at least five years & rdquor ;.

Families with different needs

Specifically, sources consulted by this newspaper confirm that they have occupied the flats “families with small children or vulnerable dependents; young people without the possibility of emancipation; and foreign people who have encountered problems when accessing a home& rdquor ;.

At first it was noted that the property was municipal, although it has subsequently been reported that it belongs to the Generalitat.

This noon, the local and national police have appeared in the building, but the families have remained, as the witnesses report that they did not have a court order to enter. After “some moments of tension & rdquor ;, at least 6 fines, and a negotiation, the agents have finally left the place without further incident.
