Saudi clubs are growing significantly
Paris Saint-Germain was the biggest winner in terms of squad value in the last transfer window with a plus of 283.7 million euros, moved up five places in the international comparison of the most valuable teams and is now one of three clubs above the billion mark. Al-Ahli SFC and Al-Hilal SFC also recorded large growth thanks to seemingly endless financial strength, while three of the five teams with the largest squad value losses are representatives from the Bundesliga – which also has something to do with PSG.

A look at the Transfermarkt database shows that in a comparison of the top 5 leagues and the Saudi Pro League, which is subsidized with billions of dollars from the state, none can match the star ensemble from Paris this summer. The total value of the capital club, which is also supported with Sheikh assets, has grown since the end of June – and thus before the transfer window – from 800.1 million euros to currently 1.08 billion euros. Players worth 266.1 million euros left, new players were signed with club-internal record expenditures of 349.5 million euros with added estimates of 546.3 million euros.
The most valuable signing was Ousmane Dembélé (26) with 60 million euros until shortly before the transfer deadline, before Randal Kolo Muani (24) from Eintracht Frankfurt was able to be freed late on the evening of Deadline Day. The squad value was increased again by 80 million euros.
Squad values in the transfer summer of 2023: Losses for SGE, BVB & RB Leipzig
The departure of the French national player caused the value of the SBU to drop to 170.1 million euros, after the Hessians had previously played with Evan Ndicka (24), Jesper Lindstrøm (23), Daichi Kamada (27) and Djibril Sow (26). professionals had lost 105 million euros. The result when offset against the new signings is a minus of 120.4 million euros, which is only beaten by Wolverhampton Wanderers in an international comparison – albeit very narrowly with a loss of 120.8 million euros.
Behind the duo are two other Bundesliga clubs, Borussia Dortmund (-83.2 million euros) and RB Leipzig (-66.7 million euros), with FC Villarreal (-68.5 million euros) between them. Euro). This summer, BVB had to cope with the departure of Jude Bellingham (20) to Real Madrid, who used to be the most valuable footballer in the German upper house with a market value of 120 million euros. With the “Red Bulls”, Christopher Nkunku (25), Josko Gvardiol (21) and Dominik Szoboszlai (22) went with the top three players in the squad.
Shifts in the top 5 of the most valuable clubs – FC Bayern slips out
All made it to the Premier League, which remains in the top five three times since June in the World’s Most Valuable Clubs ranking. However, there were slight shifts. Treble winners Manchester City are still enthroned at the top, followed by Arsenal FC and ranking climbers PSG. Thanks to the Bellingham millions, Paris and Real are also pushing past Chelsea, which despite investing almost half a billion was only able to increase the squad value by 7.8 million euros.

FC Bayern slipped out of the top five, with their team appraisal showing a minus of 12.2 million euros in the past transfer period. Although the German record champions strengthened themselves with Harry Kane (30) and Min-jae Kim (26) with two top-class market valuers, who are valued together at 150 million euros, they also lost significantly through six departures in the double-digit million range. In addition, the planned move from Fulham’s João Palhinha (28; AV: 40 million euros) on September 1st’s deadline day did not materialise.
Until September 7th instead of September 20th as previously assumed, the Saudi Pro League can sign players who have already attracted a number of veteran stars, but also promising talents to the Arabian Peninsula for incredible sums. The biggest buyers so far have been Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli, both in the top 10 highest spending clubs in 2023/24, as reflected in their respective squad values. Al-Ahli has so far recorded a whopping increase of EUR 187.4 million (to EUR 201.3 million), Al Hilal is close behind with EUR 184.6 million in squad value growth (to EUR 259.5 million ), which only PSG surpasses internationally this summer. But there is still a little time for the clubs from Saudi Arabia.
