More and more birds are getting spring into the bulb. You hear it everywhere: woodpeckers drumming on trees, the great tit blows its well-known tune and whenever possible, males and females dance to court each other.
Nature photographer Robert Moeliker found these two oystercatchers on the beach of Heemskerk. They dance a pas de deux at a high tempo. Perhaps they are male and female who have already raised several litters in past years and in this way they renew their bond. It is also possible that they introduce themselves in this way and see if they have a suitable candidate in front of them.
Grebes dance their own dance on ditches and canals and coots are already busy securing their territory. But did you know that cormorants are now starting to lay eggs, that tawny owls have had chicks for a long time and Egyptian geese have also been seen with pups?
Anyway, spring is coming!
