According to Buienradar, it is rare that the Northern Lights have been so clearly visible above the Netherlands.
In mid-September the northern lights could also be seen in North Holland and Friesland, among others. The glow is caused by electrically charged particles from the sun colliding with the atmosphere at high speed. This produces pink and green light phenomena.
