Music streaming service Spotify raised its prices for the first time ever in its 15-year history. Told about it Telegraph.

The decision has been influenced by the demands of the music industry for the service, according to which artists are paid too little. Music songs made by artificial intelligence that spread to the service also cause concern in the music industry.

– We try to encourage not only price increases but also frequent price increases, Warner Music’s CFO Eric Levin stated in May.

New prices:

  • Individual Premium 11.99 euros per month (+1 euro)
  • Duo-Premium EUR 16.49 per month (+ EUR 1.5)
  • Family Premium EUR 19.99 per month (+ EUR 1)
  • Student 6.99 euros per month (+0.5 euros)

The service can also be listened to without a paid subscription, but in this case the song selections cannot be influenced very much, and the user will also have to listen to mandatory advertisements.

Option

If the price increase causes irritation, there are also alternatives to Spotify. For example, the TIDAL service offers a cheaper subscription and pays artists better for listening times.

A music blog According to Ditto Spotify pays the artist approximately EUR 0.0027–0.0045 per listen. TIDAL pays an average of 0.012 euros per listening session for an artist.

This means that 1000 listens would bring an artist working on Spotify a meager 3.95 euros and on TIDAL 11.74 euros.

TIDAL is one of the few Spotify competitors that hasn’t raised the subscription price recently. YouTube Music, Apple Music and Amazon Music Unlimited have raised prices during the year.
