Spotify is getting more expensive. ‘Growth in mind’

The originally Swedish company, founded in 2006 by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon, is making increases for the first time. Those who have a duo subscription now pay 14.99 and therefore 2 euros more per month. A family subscription will be 3 euros more expensive and will go to the monthly price of 17.99. New subscribers will immediately pay the new, higher price.

Growth through elevation

The music platform says it envisions growth and is implementing the price increase in order to continue to innovate “in the changed, current market”. These updates help us continue to deliver value to our fans.

Loyal listeners pay the price, even though they have a month to cancel their subscription if necessary. Those who were just in the first trial month can listen for one more month at the original cost, after which the new amount will start. Spotify is 17 years old this year, and claims to have more than 200 million subscribers.

Other services

With these price increases, Spotify is following other streaming services. The price of Viaplay previously increased by 2 euros per month, Disney + by 1 euro and AppleTV by 2 euros. In addition, YouTube Music and Videoland have increased monthly prices, just as Netflix did before, which also put an end to sharing subscriptions with multiple households.
