Spotify, one of the world’s leading music streaming services, is raising its subscription prices in Germany. This affects various subscription models, including the popular individual subscription. Existing customers will receive a transition period to adjust to the price adjustments, while new customers will pay the new tariffs immediately.
• Spotify provides information about price adjustments
• Price increase affects entire premium product range
• Non-consenters risk being downgraded to ad-based access
Spotify is also following suit in Germany
The popular music streaming service Spotify has announced that it will increase the prices of its subscription packages in Germany. The company will notify existing customers of the new terms via email and there will be a three-month grace period before the new prices take effect, Spotify said. According to the company, the increased prices now apply to new customers.
It is worth noting that Spotify already increased subscription prices in most European countries in July 2023, however Germany was exempt from this price increase at the time. With the current changes, Spotify is now also following suit in Germany.
New prices for all products
According to the company’s latest announcement, the new prices will be as follows: The individual subscription will increase from 9.99 euros to 10.99 euros per month. The Duo subscription, which offers space for up to two accounts, will in future cost 14.99 euros instead of 12.99 euros. The family subscription, which includes up to six accounts, will cost 17.99 euros instead of 14.99 euros per month. The student subscription, which was previously available at a reduced price of 4.99 euros, will now be increased to 5.99 euros per month.
Without consent there is a risk of demotion
Spotify has clarified that customers who do not agree to the new terms in a timely manner will be downgraded to ad-based free access. This means they will have to endure advertisements while streaming music unless they accept the updated prices for their subscriptions.
