Spotify exchanges heart button for new function

Favorite songs could previously be marked on Spotify using the heart symbol. But the streaming service is getting rid of the icon and is rolling out a new function instead. TECHBOOK has the details.

So far it’s been relatively easy: If users have found a song on Spotify that they really like, they can add it to their favorites list using an icon with a small heart. However, if you use Spotify on your Android smartphone or iPhone, you will notice a change here in the coming days. With an update, the music streaming service says goodbye to the heart symbol. As a replacement, there is a new icon and a new operation, which, according to Spotify, should be faster and more efficient.

The Spotify heart becomes a plus

With the update, Spotify merges the heart icon and the add to playlist icon into one icon. In the future there will only be one “plus” that takes over the previous functions.

Spotify users can not only save a specific song, podcast, playlist or an entire album via the plus symbol, they can also save it to their own library by pressing it again. Even several songs or albums can be moved in one go. The new operation works as follows:

To save a song or podcast episode, users must click the plus icon to the right of the desired track in the Now Playing view. It will then be added to the Likes list or, in the case of Podcasts, to the Your Follows list. Here, the plus icon becomes a green check mark. If users want to change the location of the selected songs or podcasts, they can do so by tapping the check mark.

The change should make it easier to use

Spotify cites saving time as the reason for switching from the heart symbol to the plus icon. This is also due to the fact that users can add several playlists to their library at the same time after the changeover. The update has no effect on previously saved songs, albums or podcasts – they are still in the library.

As Spotify writes on its website, the rollout of the update has already started. In the coming weeks, it should reach all Android and iPhone users with Spotify app worldwide.
