Spot storks in the Zwin: already taken 12 nests

Even before spring really starts, the storks return from their winter home and look for a nest in the Zwin to breed there. The province knows this is the ideal time for a walk in the park. That is why she is organizing another Stork weekend. Twelve nests in the Zwin have already been occupied by stork couples and this could increase.

View of the nests

There are 21 stork poles in the park, but some of the migratory birds choose to breed in self-built nests in trees. Visitors can get very close to the occupied nests from the stork tower. They also find a lot of information about the life course of the black and white waders. From the panorama tower in the visitor center, visitors have a 360-degree view of the surroundings and of a number of stork poles with nests.

Children can go to the forest hut for the story “The stork and the fox”. All activities of the Stork Weekend are included in the price of the entrance ticket. The Zwin is also launching a call to sponsor the “Operation Ooievaar” project. This can be done by financing a transmitter to monitor the birds remotely on a daily basis.
