Many people died for the World Cup in Qatar. Can we still cheer for our favorite team or is that completely wrong?
On the day of the opening game, presenter Jessy Wellmer asks how we should deal with the tournament now that the ball is rolling: cheer or continue to denounce? During the World Cup, the background talk format “Sportschau Thema” will be dedicated to sports-political topics related to the tournament on seven selected match days.
Coach legends and top politicians as guests
Trainer legend Winfried Schäfer is a guest in the studio – he worked in Qatar last year. SPD General Secretary Kevin Kühnert will also be there. The top politician knows about Germany’s economic dependency on Qatar and says about himself that he is a critical football fan.
The round is completed by ARD investigative journalist Benjamin Best. His research on the World Cup in Qatar and the situation of guest workers there have been causing a stir for years. Among other things, he worked on the ARD documentary “Qatar – World Cup of Shame”.
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf is also included in the program. In addition, a Kenyan migrant worker reports on his experiences on site and how he will follow the tournament now.
