World number one in women’s singles, Australian racquet Ashleigh Barty will face her opponent from the qualifying round in the first round, while last year’s champion Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka will face Colombian Camila Osorio.
US Open champion Emma Raducanu will face American Sloane Stephens in the first round.
World number 2 in men’s singles Russian Daniil Medvedev competed with Henri Laaksonen from Switzerland, while German Alexander Zverev matched with fellow countryman Daniel Altmaier and Spanish Rafael Nadal matched with Marcos Giron from the USA.
The tournament, which will kick off on Monday, 17 January at the Australian Tennis Center in Melbourne’s Olympic Park, will conclude with the men’s singles final on Sunday, 30 January.
