Sports Gala: Alexander Doom team voted ‘Team of the Year’

Team of the year

With 640 points, the team of, among others, the Borlées and Roeselarenaar Alexander Doom beat the football club and current vice champion Union Sint-Gillis, and the Belgian World Cup cycling team. On the honors list they follow the Belgian men’s hockey team. They were voted Team of the Year for the fifth time in Schelle last year and are therefore also record holders. They are currently preparing for the world championship later this month in India.

The Tornados had an unforgettable year with gold at the World Indoor Championships in the Serbian capital Belgrade, bronze at the World Championships in Eugene, USA, and silver at the European Championships in Munich, Germany. Between 2009 and 2011, the Belgian relay team in the men’s 4x400m has received the prize for the best Team of the Year three years in a row.

Paralympic athlete of the year

Belgian Paralympic rider, Michèle George from Ostend, also won the title of Paralympian of the year 2022. The much-winner in para-dressage, who now lives in Waregem, was twice the best at the World Equestrian Games and is now also the second time the “Paralympian of the Year”. She won the title in 2014 for the first time.
