One of 6 interested parties
Due to two serious shoulder injuries, Jeremiah St. Juste, the third most valuable player in the squad with a market value of 16 million euros, has made only nine appearances for 1.FSV Mainz 05 this season. However, there is no shortage of interested parties for the 25-year-old central defender at Rheinhessen. Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla FC and the three Premier League clubs Leicester City, West Ham United and Newcastle United have recently been linked to the Dutchman in the TM rumor mill. According to the “Bild” the most interested party comes from Portugal: Sporting Lisbon.

Accordingly, those responsible for the defending champions of the Portuguese league will travel to Mainz next week to negotiate a transfer. FSV have adjusted their transfer fee downwards in view of St. Juste’s contract expiring in 2023, but do not want to sell for less than 10 million euros. When he was signed in 2019, the right-footer, coming from Feyenoord, cost 8 million euros, making him the record signing for the 05ers to this day. With earnings of 10 million euros, St. Juste would meanwhile join Ridle Baku (24) in tenth place in the ranking of the most expensive departures.

Sporting coach Rúben Amorim, like Bo Svensson in Mainz, defends with a back three. Captain Sebastián Coates (31) and top talent Gonçalo Inácio (20) are seeded, in third place either Zouhair Feddal (32), Luís Neto (33) or Matheus Reis (27) are used – a feasible one for St. Juste task to prevail. Sitting comfortably in second place, Sporting are all but certain of qualifying for the Champions League, where the ‘Lions’ reached the round of 16 this year.
