Morocco still without Mazraoui and Ziyech

13:20: The Moroccan football team will try to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar at the end of this year without Noussair Mazraoui and Hakim Ziyech. The right back of Ajax and the attacking midfielder of Chelsea are missing from the selection that national coach Vahid Halilhodzic presented for the two duels with Congo.

NEC defender Souffian El Karouani and attacker Zakaria Aboukhlal of AZ also received no invitation. At the beginning of this year, they were part of the Moroccan selection at the African Cup tournament. Morocco lost in the quarterfinals against Egypt.

Congo and Morocco will meet next Friday (March 25) in Kinshasa, four days later the return is in Casablanca. The stake is a ticket to the World Cup.

Moroccan federation president Fouzi Lekjaa recently said Mazraoui and Ziyech would be included in the preliminary roster of Halilhodzic, who both clashed with last year. However, via social media, Mazraoui (24) and Ziyech (28) immediately announced that they did not feel anything about a return to the national team as long as the conflict with the national coach has not been resolved. They have been at odds with Halilhodzic for months. The 69-year-old Bosnian did not think Ziyech’s behavior suited his selection and, among other things, blamed Mazraoui for having unsubscribed too easily with an injury.

Sofyan Amrabat (former player of FC Utrecht and Feyenoord) is in the selection for the diptych with Congo. Other well-known names in the group are Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint-Germain), Yassine Bounou, Youssef En-Nesyri and Munir El Haddadi (all Sevilla). Amsterdam-born Tarik Tissoudali, attacker of AA Gent, also received a call. Tissoudali (28) previously played for SC Cambuur, VVV-Venlo and De Graafschap.

Oliver Naesen also has to pass for Milan-Sanremo

11.28 am: Belgian cyclist Oliver Naesen is missing on Saturday in Milan-Sanremo, the spring classic in which he finished second in 2019. The rider of AG2R-Citroën is ill and has withdrawn. Three years ago, Naesen was beaten in the sprint in Sanremo by Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe, who is also not there.

The 31-year-old Belgian finished fourth in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad last month. He got off last week in Paris-Nice during the penultimate stage. Many riders left the French stage race due to illness.

Last year Naesen finished in 21st place in Milan-Sanremo. His compatriot Jasper Stuyven won then. The Italian classic covers 293 kilometers on Saturday.

Skier Shiffrin wins world cup for fourth time

11.20 am: American skier Mikaela Shiffrin has won the World Cup for the fourth time. 27-year-old Shiffrin secured the overall victory in the overall World Cup standings by finishing second at the super-G in Courchevel. With two World Cup races to go, she has an unbridgeable lead of 236 points over Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova.

Shiffrin had to leave the win on the super-G to Ragnhild Mowinckel. The Norwegian was 0.05 seconds ahead of the American on the French track. Michelle Gisin from Switzerland, the Beijing Olympic champion in the combination, finished third at 0.13.

Shiffrin conquered the big crystal ball as the winner of the World Cup earlier in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She experienced disappointing Winter Games in China last month. Shiffrin competed in six parts, but finished all off the podium.

Los Angeles Lakers basketball problems continue

08.04 am: The Los Angeles Lakers have lost again in the NBA. The record champion went down 124-104 at the Minnesota Timberwolves.

For LA Lakers, it marked the eleventh loss in a row in an away game. The team of star player LeBron James has lost no fewer than sixteen of the last 21 matches. LA Lakers are now ninth in the Western Conference, which would be just enough to qualify for the playoffs.

“My patience is being tested more than in previous years simply because of the way we play,” said a disappointed James, who was the most accurate player on his team at 19 points.

San Antonio Spurs took advantage of the Lakers’ defeat thanks to a 122-120 win over Oklahoma City Thunder. The Spurs are currently 11th in the Western Conference, just behind the Lakers.
