Sport, Rope Flow arrives, the evolution of jumping rope

S.heavily linked to childhood memories, jumping rope evolves into a contemporary and, perhaps, more adult version. Is called Rope Flow comes from San Diego where it was created by David Weck and is a sport that involves functional training that if at the beginning it was chosen to improve athletic performance, now it has become a real activity in itself, brought to Italy by Fabio “Takeo” Cloud and his brother Dimitri, famous breakers of our country.

Sport, keep fit with Rope Flow: what is it?

The technical name of this discipline is RMT Rope, Rotational Movement Training and it is a series of more or less short movements to be made with the rope. “It’s a real fusion of different disciplines: jumping rope has in fact been combined with martial arts. The rope is in fact used instead of the tools of the oriental disciplines, mimicking typical positions and movements »he explains Paola Miretta, personal trainer.

A workout that has benefits for the whole body “This is in fact a discipline that involves different aspects of the organism: in fact it acts on all the musclesnot only that of strength but above all that of neuromuscular, which increases energy expenditure. But the body is also involved at the cardiovascular level and at the coordination level. So it can be said that it is a type of training that involves the body at 360 ° ».

Furthermore, speed and control of movement are also involved: it is no coincidence that it is a type of sport very suitable for those looking for plasticity, just like in martial arts which among other things are particularly recommended for children because they have a body that adapts very easily to movements, explains the expert.

Do not forget the role of the rope: “This is not the classic skipping ropeis much more similar to those used for climbing, so physically it weighs more ».

Affinity with Tai Chi

But the affinities with martial arts and oriental philosophies in general are also other. As with tal chi, rope flow also involves a sort of moving meditation, also called active meditation. To practice this technique, in fact, it is essential to have the mind clear of one’s thoughts: you have to concentrate on your own movement and above all on that of the rope, anticipating its trajectory.

Not only that, but its constant motion creates a rhythm that stimulates concentration and it becomes almost therapeutic focus on it. If, on the other hand, you want to change the “rhythm”, the training can be speeded up if combined with music.

Can rope flow be practiced by everyone?

Potentially yes if you are healthy and fit. It is a type of discipline that is good for everyone, which can also be adapted to everyone’s needs and that allows you to keep fit because it burns energy thanks to the involvement of the neuromuscular apparatus.
