Wesley Koolhof number 1 year world doubles ranking
07:59: Tennis player Wesley Koolhof is the new number 1 in doubles in the world ranking based on this year’s performances. In the so-called ‘Doubles Race’, he and his British partner Neal Skupski took over the lead from Australians Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis, who took the doubles title at the Australian Open at the beginning of this year.
The 33-year-old Koolhof is having a strong season. He has already won three tournaments this year, in Melbourne, Adelaide and Doha. Last weekend he lost the final battle in Barcelona.
Koolhof and Skupski only formed a couple this year. Because Koolhof’s results were disappointing at the end of last year, he is 15th in the regular world ranking.
The annual ranking determines which teams qualify for the ATP Finals, the year-end tournament for the eight best couples.
Pelicans in NBA play-offs level with Suns
7:54 AM: The New Orleans Pelicans basketball players have tied the game with Phoenix Suns in the NBA playoffs. The Pelicans won the fourth game at their Smoothie King Center 118-103 to make it 2-2.
For the Pelicans, Brandon Ingram was good for 30 points and Jonas Valanciunas for 26. On the side of the Suns, Deandre Ayton was the top scorer with 23 points.
The Miami Heat, first seeded in the Eastern Conference, took a 3-1 lead against the Atlanta Hawks by winning 110-86 at Atlanta. Jimmy Butler had an important part in the victory with 36 points.
The first team to win four games will qualify for the next round of the play-offs.
