Barguil wins modified GP Indurain
5:51 PM French cyclist Warren Barguil has won the GP Indurain. The 30-year-old rider of Arkéa Samsic triumphed after 191 kilometers in the sprint of a select group. The track of the Spanish one-day race, named after five-time Tour winner Miguel Indurain, had to be adjusted at the last minute because some roads were impassable due to the snow.
Barguil succeeds Alejandro Valverde as the winner of the GP Indurain. The Spanish veteran won the race for the third time last year.
At 2 kilometers from the finish, the course ignited on the steep Alto Ibarra. Frenchman Pierre Latour and Marc Hirschi from Switzerland separated the peloton there. About ten riders then sprinted for the win in Estella. The Russian Aleksandr Vlasov thought he would win, but he was passed by Barguil in the last meters. Vlasov finished third, still behind Australian Simon Clarke.
Silver for gymnast Visser in Baku, bronze Van Pol
13:37: Naomi Visser and Vera van Pol have won medals at the World Cup in Baku. Visser took silver in the bridge section, Van Pol came in third on that device, good for bronze.
The winner was the French Lorette Charpy, who came out with a score of 13,866. Visser finished second at an appropriate distance: 13,100. Van Pol kept the German Sarah Voss (12,933) just off the bronze with 12.966. Loran de Munck finished eighth and last in the final on bridge with a score of 13.766.
Visser, fifth in the all-round final at the World Cup last autumn, will play in the finals on beam and floor in the Azerbaijani capital on Sunday.
Stephen Curry will not return to the play-offs until suddenly swaying Warriors
10.24 am: Stephen Curry will no longer play for the Golden State Warriors in the NBA regular season. The star has been sidelined for three weeks with an ankle injury. His team won only once in the seven games in which Curry was missing.
Curry (34) led his team to the title in the American professional league three times in recent years. He will start individual training again next week. Golden State reports that it will release an update one day after the end of the regular season (April 10).
The Warriors need one more win to secure a direct berth to the playoffs, which begin on April 16.
Belgian top hockey player Van Doren longer at Bloemendaal
9.42 am: The Belgian top hockey player Arthur van Doren will also play for HC Bloemendaal in the coming years. His contract has been extended “for several seasons”, reports the club with which he won the national title twice in recent years and won the Euro Hockey League twice.
Van Doren (27) came to Bloemendaal in 2018, shortly after he was chosen as the best hockey player in the world for the second time. He won gold with the Belgian national team at the Tokyo Olympics last summer.

Also with James and Davis, Lakers lose sight of play-offs in NBA
08.40 am: Due to a defeat against New Orleans Pelicans, the basketball players of Los Angeles Lakers have ended up outside the places that entitle them to a sequel in the American NBA competition. The return of star players LeBron James and Anthony Davis couldn’t help the LA team either: 111-114.
The Lakers dropped to 11th place in the Western Conference. The top six teams will qualify directly for the play-offs at the end of the regular season. San Antonio Spurs climbed to tenth place thanks to a win (130-111) on the Portland Trail Blazers.
James was the top scorer for the Lakers with 38 points. Davis, who was absent for eighteen games, also made a good comeback with 23 points and 12 rebounds. It could not prevent the fifth loss in a row.
First masters final for tennis player Alcaraz (18) in Miami
8.27 am: Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has reached the final of a masters tournament for the first time. The 18-year-old top talent did that by beating defending champion Hubert Hurkacz from Poland in the semi-finals in Miami. Alcaraz won in two sets that both ended in a tiebreak: 7-6 (5) 7-6 (2).
Alcaraz, who already reached the semifinals in Indian Wells two weeks ago, will compete against Norwegian Casper Ruud in the battle for the title in Miami. Alcaraz is number 16 in the world, Ruud is eight places higher.
