The birthday boy Jack Ansems finished second with Fliere Fluiter. Marc Houtzager, the reigning champion, is currently in third place with Holy Moly. Friday is the second part of the title fight in Deurne. The final will take place on Sunday.

‘Bronze’ rower Keijser ends career

6.43 pm: Roeister Marieke Keijser (25), who won bronze in the light double sculls at the Tokyo Olympics, will retire from TeamNL. She thus concludes a successful international career. “I was waiting until I felt like it again, but I came to the conclusion that I could wait a long time,” she explains her decision on the website of the rowing association.

From 2017 Keijser formed a duo with Ilse Paulis in the light double sculls. She was on the podium at all European and World Championships in which she participated from 2017, in both the light doubles and solo in the single scull.

Four ramps tournament also gets an edition for women

5:29 PM: The Four Hills Tournament, an annual multi-day ski jumping tournament, will also have an edition for women. The Austrian and German ski federations have reached an agreement with the international federation FIS. The first edition is aimed at the 2023-2024 season.

The Four Hills Tournament, traditionally around the turn of the year, took place last winter for the seventieth time. There is traditional jumping in the German Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen and in the Austrian Innsbruck and Bischofshofen. According to the plan on the table, the organizers want the matches in Germany to cross. If the men jump in Oberstdorf, then it’s the women’s turn in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, that’s the idea.

“We must make good use of the time we now have until the first organization to solve every issue together with all interested parties and to fill in all the preconditions,” the German federation said on Thursday.

The female ski jumpers, including the German Katharina Althaus, have been arguing for a Four Hills Tournament for women for years.

López takes victory in stage four of the Tour of the Alps

3:44 pm: Miguel Ángel López has won the fourth stage of the Tour of the Alps. In the mountain stage between Villabassa and Kals am Grossglockner, he trumped refugee Thibaut Pinot from France in the final kilometer. Pinot crossed the line in second, followed by his compatriot Romain Bardet.

For López it is his first win of the season.

Bahrain-Victorius’ Spaniard Pello Bilbao finished fourth and will retain the leader’s jersey after Thursday. The difference between Bilbao and Bardet, the number two in the standings, is barely two seconds. There will be one more stage on Friday.

Thymen Arensman of Team DSM was the best Dutchman on Thursday with ninth place. He is seventh in the general classification and also leads the youth classification.

Motorcycle racer Van der Mark makes a comeback in Assen after a broken leg

13:59: Motorcycle racer Michael van der Mark can make his comeback in the Superbike World Championship this weekend in front of his own audience in Assen. The 29-year-old South Hollander missed the test races and the opening round of the World Cup two weeks ago in Aragón due to a leg fracture. He has received permission from the doctors to get on his BMW for the first free practice on Friday.

Van der Mark (29) will then be examined again. The driver will then hear whether he can also participate in Assen for the rest of the weekend.

Before the start of the season, the Dutchman broke a leg in a fall while mountain biking. He said he was ready for a return to the TT Circuit on Wednesday. “The healing process after the surgery went very well.”

Two races from the World Superbike World Championship are scheduled in Assen, on Saturday and Sunday. “I don’t expect to drive in the front,” said Van der Mark. “I know it will be a challenge because I haven’t ridden the BMW since the end of last year. I also missed all the testing in the spring, so I don’t know all the changes that were made to the bike over the winter. The most important thing is that I get back into action without focusing on results.”

Noor Strand Hagenes (18) cycling professional at Jumbo Visma from 2024

10:41 am Per Strand Hagenes will be part of the Jumbo Visma World Tour team from 2024. The 18-year-old Norwegian is working on his first season in the service of the training team of the Dutch formation.

The reigning junior world champion signs a contract until 2026. He will drive for the training team next year. “This long-term contract gives me the opportunity to develop in the same environment for a longer period of time. Hopefully I can continue to grow gradually so that I am ready for the pro peloton in 2024,” says Strand Hagenes.

Sporting director Merijn Zeeman is happy that Jumbo-Visma has been able to capture the talented Norwegian for a longer period. “After great scouting work by the staff of the training team, Per’s training continues steadily,” says Zeeman. “Our World Tour team currently houses several stars, but we would like to train the new generation of leaders ourselves. Per belongs to the group of riders who will have the opportunity to grow to that level.”
