ADO Den Haag – Telstar postponed due to roof damage

6.42 pm: The game between ADO Den Haag and Telstar, which was to be played in the Kitchen Champion Division on Friday-evening, has been postponed. Part of the roof of the Cars Jeans Stadium was heavily damaged by storm Eunice last Friday. For the time being, the situation has not recovered enough to be able to play.

The match will now take place on Monday, March 21 (8:00 PM).

Corona golf hits RB Salzburg

5:06 p.m.: Red Bull Salzburg has been hit by a corona wave. The Austrian football club, which held Bayern Munich 1-1 in the eighth finals of the Champions League last week, reported fifteen positive cases after a routine check. In addition to players, it also concerns some staff members. Most have hardly any complaints but have been quarantined according to the regulations.

The national champion announced on Wednesday that he had canceled both training sessions. Instead, those involved worked on their fitness at home. The selection and guidance will be continuously monitored for the virus in the coming days.

“At the moment we can still train and play. However, we now have to closely monitor the development of the non-infected players with the medical staff and take measures if necessary,” said technical director Christoph Freund. Salzburg will play in Munich on March 8 for the return against Bayern.

Former footballer Giresse new national coach Kosovo

5:05 p.m.: Alain Giresse becomes the new Kosovo national coach. The former football international of France has signed a contract until November 2023.

In 1984 Giresse was a player of the French national team that won the European title. He is looking forward to the cooperation with the internationals of Kosovo. “They are very technical and like to play on possession. It’s a style of play that suits me very well.”

Giresse was also once national coach of Morocco. He also trained clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Toulouse in his own country.

For Dutch riders, World Cups are all about Olympic Games

4:22 p.m.: The Dutch show jumping riders can already ensure their participation in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris next summer at the World Championships in Herning (6-14 August). The team of national coach Jos Lansink, who has succeeded Rob Ehrens, has to finish in the top five of the Nations Cup in Denmark. Sixth place is also sufficient if France, automatically qualified for the Olympics in all equestrian disciplines, is in the best five.

If the Orange does not succeed in that assignment, there will still be opportunities at the European Championship of 2023 in Milan (top three excluding the countries already qualified). The highest finished, not yet qualified team in the finals of the Nations Cup in Barcelona in 2022 and 2023 may also start at the Games, with the Palace of Versailles as the setting.

For Lansink, the Dutch National Championships in Deurne (April 21-24) is the formal start of the outdoor season. In the run-up to the World Cup, he will judge the potential internationals and their horses on the basis of the results in the major four and five star competitions, including of course the CHIO of Rotterdam.

The dressage team of national coach Alex van Silfhout is waiting a similar route to Paris, starting with the World Cup in Herning and a possible rematch at the European Championship 2023. To get an eventing team at the start of the Games, the selection of national coach Andrew Heffernan must finish in the top seven at the World Cup in Pratoni del Vivaro, near Rome. Later possibilities are the Nations Cup series and the European Championship 2023. No team was sent to Tokyo. Merel Blom and Janneke Boonzaadjer took part in the individual tournament.

Declercq misses spring rates due to heart disease

4.20 pm: Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl has to do without Tim Declercq during the spring races. The 32-year-old Belgian is struggling with an inflammation of the pericardium and has to rest for a few weeks. “But that has no negative effects in the long term,” Declercq reassures on social media.

Declercq has to contend with pericarditis, an inflammation of the pericardium. This inflammation can be caused by a virus, flu or bacteria. After the Saudi Tour at the beginning of this month, Declercq still tested positive for the corona virus.

“I started the season well, I felt completely ready, but a few hours after the first stage in Algarve I felt very bad,” writes Declercq on Instagram. “We didn’t immediately know what it was, but later I was diagnosed with pericarditis.”

There will be no major consequences for Declercq’s health or career. “The symptoms are gone now and it has no long-term negative effects. But we follow the doctor’s advice. In the following weeks, the bike has to be put aside for a few weeks. I will tell my teammates from The WolfpacI encourage with a (figuratively) bleeding heart because I have to miss my beloved classics. We are trying to come back stronger than ever.”

Barcelona still miss Depay in Europa League against Napoli

11.32 am: Attacker Memphis Depay is still missing from FC Barcelona on Thursday. The 28-year-old Orange international is not in the selection for the Europa League match with Napoli. Trainer Xavi said more than a week ago that he hoped for a return from Depay soon after the Dutchman had a small relapse from his hamstring injury.

That left Depay to the lost duel with Bayern Munich (3-0) in the Champions League, at the beginning of December. The striker made his comeback at the beginning of January, but after two substitutions he suffered again.

Without the striker, Barcelona booked big victories over Atlético Madrid and Valencia in recent weeks. In the first leg against Napoli in Camp Nou it was 1-1 last week. For the return, which will be played on Thursday at 9 p.m., former Ajax players Frenkie de Jong and Sergiño Dest and former PSV player Luuk de Jong are in the selection.

Juventus has lost McKennie with a broken foot for the time being

11:30 a.m.: Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has to miss midfielder Weston McKennie in the coming weeks. The American international suffered several fractures in his left foot in the Champions League match against Villarreal (1-1) on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the Italian club confirmed that it concerns fractures in the second and third metatarsal bone. McKennie was substituted after 81 minutes after being the victim of a foul by Pervis Estupiñán.

The 23-year-old McKennie has made 28 appearances for Juventus in all competitions this season, scoring four times. Italian media believe his recovery will take at least two months.

Cycling team Quick-Step with Asgreen in Omloop, Jakobsen in Kuurne

10.45 am: Cycling team Quick-Step – Alpha Vinyl has announced the composition for the so-called opening weekend. On Saturday, the Belgian team will start in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad with the Dane Kasper Asgreen as the leader. A day later, Fabio Jakobsen takes his place in Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. The Dutch sprinter already booked four victories this year.

Especially in Belgium, the Omloop is a prestigious race that heralds the cycling spring. The race over 204 kilometers goes from Ghent to Ninove with thirteen slopes on the way. Asgreen, last year’s winner of the Tour of Flanders, is supported by Czech Zdenek Stybar, who won the Omloop in 2019.

Jakobsen is the trump card when it turns out to be a sprint in Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. Before that, there are some climbs, the last one more than 50 kilometers before the finish. The 25-year-old rider from Heukelum is accompanied by the Belgians Iljo Keisse and Yves Lampaert, among others.
