Sport 1: Turkish company buys “double pass” channels

The well-known broadcaster Sport1 is getting new owners – at least partially. That’s why new programs will probably be shown there soon.

The station Sport1 has new co-owners. The Turkish production company Acun Medya, owned by owner and reality TV producer Acun Ilicali, is taking over exactly 50 percent of the sports channel’s shares. For this purpose, the company is transferring 30 million euros to the Swiss company Highlight Communication, which previously owned the station entirely.

Highlight Communication put the sports channel up for sale in whole or in part last year. It was about the further development of the station, it was said at the time. So now Acun Medya has struck. However, the competition and media supervisory authorities still have to approve the entry.

New programs on Sport1

As a result of Acun Medya’s entry, new formats will probably also be shown on Sport1 in the future. A German version of the fitness competition “Exatlon” is scheduled to be broadcast on Sport1 in the fall.

Acun Medya owns the Turkish TV station TV8, but also produces entertainment shows such as “The Masked Singer” and “I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here!” in countries like Romania and Mexico. The company also shows the Champions League in Turkey via the Exxen streaming platform.
