Six Monet murals, made by the Polish street art painters Piotr Bazynski and Maciej Gadek, have been shining in six different streets in Zaandam for some time now. Not enough money has yet been raised for the seventh copy in the Langestraat and is therefore in the pipeline. The street art painter duo therefore makes a short trip to the Pelikaanstraat and has painted a life-sized Pelican there.
The mural in the Pelikaanstraat was commissioned by Dogan Projects, which is involved in a major renovation project in the area. This assignment stems from Piort and Maciej’s Monet project. These Polish street artists want to record all 25 paintings that the French painter made in the Zaan region in 1871. Six have already been realized and number seven, eight and nine are in the pipeline. The project is supported by the Monet Foundation in Zaandam.
crowdfunding
According to Simone Ronchetti of the foundation, many people are surprised that even more money is needed for the future murals. After all, the foundation has already received 20,000 euros from the municipality of Zaanstad.
Ronchetti explains that you cannot make 25 murals with the amount of money obtained. “Every time a crowdfunding must therefore be set up. Of the total amount of money raised, the municipality contributes the other half.” The counter for the Monet in the Langestraat is now at more than 2000 euros of the required 7250 euros.
At one Monet, the financing seems to have already been completed. Thanks to donations from various companies, there is enough money to manufacture a Monet at Clock Bay. Piort and Maciel hope to start on June 5, followed by the Beatrix Bridge.
