Sponsored run of Poelenburg schools for Ukraine: “Everyone contributes”

The students of the Pope Joannesschool and the Tamarind in Poelenburg, Zaanse, often talk about the war in Ukraine these days. The student council wanted to do something and that’s how the idea arose to hold a sponsored walk. More than a thousand euros has already been raised.

After the starting signal, master Rowdy de Visser (group eight) of the Pope Joannes School is beaming. “This is why I’m a teacher. This kind of thing is fantastic, isn’t it?”

“We talk about what’s happening and it came out that we wanted to do a sponsored walk,” says Helin. “For example, for food, drink and medicine.” Hailey-Jay adds: “As a school we want to help the people, because they often left things there. The money is for all kinds of things they need.”

De Visser knows that Poelenburg is not the wealthiest district in Zaandam. Yet there is an enormous solidarity, he notices. “What I like about this neighborhood is that everyone contributes, big or small. I think that’s so nice to see.”

The students have already raised more than $1,000. You can donate via this link
