with videoMax Verstappen did not go further than the ninth fastest time in the soaking third free practice for the Canadian Grand Prix. The Limburg world champion slipped off the track in some of his fast laps and got away well after spinning in turn two (see video above)†
Verstappen took little risk and stayed inside for a long time. The first times he did come on the track, that was also short-lived. Without noting a time, the leader in the world title position quickly returned to the pitlane. In the final phase of VT3 he tried to clock a fast time on intermediates, but that was not without a struggle. More than a ninth time was there, partly because of the slides (see video below)not in.
The prospects for qualifying are still a bit unclear. It seems to be a bit better than during the final training, but there is no guarantee of dry weather.
Charles Leclerc will have to start the race from the back on Sunday. The Ferrari driver gets a new engine and therefore another grid penalty. Yesterday it became clear that he had to drop ten places due to new electronics. Leclerc did not come to a clocked lap during the final free practice.
Fernando Alonso set the fastest time in the soaking wet Montreal: 1:33.836. Verstappen came to 1:34.616, slightly slower than his Red Bull teammate Sergio Pérez (1:34.498). In the first two free practice sessions, Verstappen had been the fastest.
