Bouke Scholten and the ElvisMatters Band have the program on Saturday evening The Tribute: The battle of the bands put on stilts. Jury member Spike van Zoest even got so upset that he forgot to adjust his grade. His colleague Angela Groothuizen was also very enthusiastic in front of 777,000 viewers: “A star is born!”

Singer Bouke Scholten has been making furore in the SBS 6 music show for weeks The Tribute: The battle of the bands. Together with the ElvisMatters Band he pays tribute to the King of Rock & Roll. His voice is so close to Elvis Presley that it’s almost scary. Videos of his version of In the ghetto are widely shared on TikTok, among others. And last week Scholten got the highest score when he played the number My boy brought.
Winning was not an option on Saturday evening, but that was mainly due to the party in the hall. The uplifting Suspicious Minds made sure that the judges also got up from their benches to dance with the band. Spike van Zoest therefore completely forgot to adjust his grade upwards. “I have an eight. I was too busy dancing, I think,” he confesses afterwards. As a result, the David Bowie tribute band Starman finished just above the ElvisMatters Band, but that does not matter for the final spot next week.

Bravo
Nevertheless, Van Zoest also had some criticism of the performance. “I found it a bit slow at the beginning. It started out a bit messy. Then you picked up steam. It’s really amazing what you put up. In the Netherlands we quickly think that is not a bit too much bravura. But if you want to portray Elvis, you have to do that.” Angela Groothuizen was completely lyrical. “What an act! What was this? I don’t mind at all that it’s a little messy. It lived and it sucked. I want to see this in the Ziggo. I think a star was born here. When the Netherlands finds out how well you can sing. And there is a very nice band around it. Ridiculously good!”
The final is next week The Tribute: The battle of the bands. In it, the groups compete for a place during a concert in the Ziggo Dome. The number one gets the most playing minutes. The number two and three may also give a show. With about 800,000 viewers every week, the program is a hit for SBS 6, which at that time has to compete with viewing figures. Who is the mole?. That was good for 2.4 million interested people yesterday.
