‘Spicy switch for Ajax striker: Danilo leaves for Feyenoord’

Danilo represents a sensitive transfer in the football world. The striker of Ajax goes according to the AD and VI sign a four-year contract with Feyenoord. The 23-year-old Brazilian is transfer-free.

Ajax wanted to extend its expiring contract at the end of last year, in order to have a transfer fee left over in the event of a departure. Danilo felt that the proposal lacked appreciation and can therefore look for a new club. Feyenoord reported early and after good talks with Feyenoord coach Arne Slot, Danilo was convinced.

Danilo thus follows the reverse route of Steven Berghuis. The attacker made the switch from Feyenoord to Ajax last year and played thirteen Eredivisie matches in the shirt of the team from Amsterdam.

Danilo played a total of five years at Ajax, which took him over from Brazilian Santos for two million euros. In his first years, he mainly played for Young Ajax and in 2020 Danilo was loaned out to FC Twente. In Enschede he made seventeen hits, after which he gained the confidence of trainer Erik ten Hag, who considered him one of the best finishers of the Ajax selection. Due to an upper leg injury, he missed the last part of the competition. He scored twice in twelve Eredivisie matches and in the cup he was accurate six times in three matches.

Illustrious list

The striker ends up in an illustrious list of players who immediately made the switch from Ajax to Feyenoord. Danilo becomes the thirteenth player in history to walk this path. Eddy Pieters Graafland, Henk Groot, Theo van Duivenbode, René Notten, Arnold Scholten, John van Loen, Johan Cruijff, Angelos Charisteas and Kenneth Vermeer preceded him.
