Jildou van der Bijl, the departing creative director of the LINDA., has given an extensive interview to Jurgen van den Berg on NPO Radio 1. At a certain point it is also about that Linda de Mol appears less and less often on the cover of her magazine state. This was already chosen before the Voice scandal, says Jildou.
Icy silence
The first time Linda was not on the cover was in 2018, when Michelle Obama graced the front cover. “We also started talking about: ‘How long do you want to be on the cover? What else do you want?’ And then we already said: ‘Well, we actually want…’ She doesn’t want to be on the cover until she is 65, so: shouldn’t we try other things?
Linda who is still on the cover at 65? Host Jurgen jokes: “And that hanging tit number has already been!”

Jurgen talks about it: “No, but good. Her role has gone more into the background. That was a conscious choice. But then The Voice also came over.”
Jildou: “Yes, then came The Voice. Then she understandably took a time-out for a while, so we also had to make the covers without her.”
Breast cover
With the ‘hang tit number’ Jurgen refers to the controversial breast cover of LINDA., which according to critics was not inclusive enough. He says: “Diversity, inclusivity: it is just not written on the wall in cow letters at every editorial office. And then a magazine like Linda (…) forgot to take that exit. I think that is special.”
Jildou: “I don’t think we’ve forgotten it completely, but if you say there was no sagging chest, that was the case. But it’s not that we forget to be diverse or to be inclusive. (…) Often only the celebrities who want to show their bodies want to participate. And that it is sometimes difficult to be very diverse.”
Circulation figures
The LINDA. is becoming less and less relevant, Jurgen concludes. “You really had the wind in your back for a long time, but when I look at the circulation figures: that is also declining a bit now.”
Jildou: “Fewer magazines are bought anyway. Nowadays people find on their phone or online basically everything that used to be in magazines. So we’re actually competing with so many other things people spend their time doing.”
Finally: what does Jildou think of Linda being back together with the controversial Jeroen Rietbergen? “Yeah, I don’t like that much. I wish Linda all the happiness in the world.”
