The accident occurred around 11 am in Katelijnestraat. Two women were riding bicycles and just as one of them was about to turn left, a man on a speed pedelec wanted to overtake them. During that maneuver he collided with the 60-year-old woman who wanted to turn. The 78-year-old Bruges resident fell heavily on his head. The man in his seventies was taken to hospital in critical condition. The 60-year-old woman suffered minor injuries.
The Bruges department of the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office decided not to send a traffic expert to the scene. Based on the witness statements, the circumstances of the accident are clear.
