‘Speculations Carlo Boszhard about the future of GTST are not justified’

According to Joost Maiburg, RTL Boulevard’s ratings expert, the speculations about the future of Good Times Bad Times are not justified. “The soap is iconic.”

It has been the case for years now that RTL 4’s viewing figures go up as soon as the summer break of Good Times Bad Times starts. The summer replacement Ik Weet Er Alles Van with presenter Ruben Nicolai is simply doing better and, according to media experts such as Victor Vlam and Carlo Boszhard, that could lead to shifts.

‘GTST not redeemed’

Joost Maiburg, viewing figures expert and reporter for RTL Boulevard, does not see it happening for the time being that GTST will be removed from RTL 4’s eight-hour slot. “I expect that Good Times Bad Times will not soon be exchanged for a quiz,” he says on his analysis channel Look at ratings.

Why? “The series is an iconic title on RTL 4 and important content for Videoland where it can be watched a week ahead. Offering the soap only on Videoland would be far too expensive. In order to reduce costs somewhat, it was decided this year to start the summer break a month earlier and save a month in that way.”

Small difference

Nevertheless, the viewing figures of GTST’s summer replacement are structurally better. “In terms of viewing figures, Ik Weet Er Alles Van managed to fascinate an average of 794 thousand people in the past seven weeks. GTST scored a linear average of 739 thousand viewers in the week of the summer break. A difference of only 55 thousand viewers.”

He continues: “Obviously people watch less TV in the middle of the summer, but GTST has an advantage: the series is looked back and forward a lot (on Videoland), and that is much less the case with Ik Weet Er Alles Van. Moreover, the question is whether the quiz also scores as well if it were to be seen 40 weeks a year.”

Eddie out?

Finally: what does Joost think of the noise about his own RTL Boulevard? Following Raymond Mens, a number of media celebrities, including Bobbi Eden, Ria Valk and Johan Vlemmix, also believe that the program has too many presenters.

Laughing: “It’s nice to see that Bobbi Eden, Ria Valk and Johan Vlemmix are now experts in the field of television. 😂😂”
