Mikaela Shiffrin recently made history with her 87th World Cup victory in alpine skiing. A media report is now speculating about how long the winter sports superstar wants to continue his career.
At the weekend the time had finally come: Mikaela Shiffrin celebrated the 87th World Cup victory in her successful career in Are, Sweden. With that, the American surpassed the old record of the former technology specialist Ingemar Stenmark (86 successes).
At the age of 28, Shiffrin has long since risen to the Alpine Skiing Olympus. The North American can boast two gold medals at the Olympics, seven World Championship titles and five overall World Cup victories.
But how long will Shiffrin remain active in alpine skiing? As the “Blick” reports, insiders believe in a resignation in two years. Then Shiffrin could abdicate together with her friend Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, it is said.
Like his girlfriend, the Norwegian is one of the big stars in alpine skiing. Kilde’s strengths lie particularly in the speed disciplines.
According to “Blick” it is also possible that Shiffrin and Kilde will only stop after the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Dream couple in alpine skiing
The two alpine aces are considered a dream couple in alpine skiing. “The way she works, is superior and has been for so many years, she always manages to do it again,” Kilde gushed to the Norwegian tabloid “Verdens Gang” from Shiffrin at the end of January: “She does it fantastic and skis absolutely magical. She is a shining example.”
Kilde added: “I really enjoy what I’m experiencing and to be able to experience it with someone you really, really love is just a super bonus.”
In the coming season, Kilde and Shiffrin will definitely still be able to be admired in the Alpine Skiing World Cup.
