Speculations about Edin Dzeko at Bayern

After Robert Lewandowski left FC Barcelona in the summer, FC Bayern started the season without an immediate replacement for the centre-forward. A bumpy start followed with several problems on the offensive, so that numerous classic nines are now being traded around the Munich team. In Edin Dzeko, an old acquaintance is now joining them.

Ironically, Honorary President Uli Hoeneß reignited the striker debate at FC Bayern on Sunday. “One thing is for sure, I think we’re missing a nine,” Hoeneß said in the “Sunday regulars’ table” in “BR” and, looking at the late setback in the classic against BVB (2-2), revealed: ” It was a difficult decision that Robert [Lewandowski, d.Red.] to deliver. With the risk that you won’t score certain goals – like Modeste yesterday.”

The German record champions actually wanted to compensate for Lewandowski’s departure with an adapted style of play. That worked out well at the start of the season. In the meantime, however, the goal engine has stalled so that there is now repeated speculation about the commitment of a classic centre-forward.

Above all, Harry Kane has been mentioned for weeks as a possible summer commitment should the Tottenham Hotspur attacker not extend his contract with the English. In addition to numerous top-class players such as Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus Turin, “Bild” now brings the name of a veteran into play who knows the Bundesliga very well and would roughly correspond to the BVB transfer from Anthony Modeste.

FC Bayern: Dzeko knows how to become a champion.

According to the tabloid, Edin Dzeko could be considered for FC Bayern if the record champions were looking for an oldie with Bundesliga experience.

The now 36-year-old played for VfL Wolfsburg between 2007 and 2011, during which time he even became German champion (2009) and top scorer (22 goals), before he ended up at Inter Milan via Manchester City and AS Roma.

Dzeko has been active there since summer 2021. This season he has already scored three goals in the league and submitted two goals. He has also scored one goal and one assist in the Champions League. The Bosnian’s contract expires in July 2023.

According to “Bild”, a center forward veteran like Dzeko would be a serious alternative if Bayern failed on the highest shelf, as with Harry Kane and Co.
