According to data from Météo France, more than 40 millimeters of rain had fallen in a span of 90 minutes at 7 p.m. at the monitoring station of the Montsouris Park in the south of Paris. That is almost “70 percent of what normally falls in one month,” says a spokesperson for the weather service.
Just after 6 p.m., several metro stations in the French capital had to be closed due to the heavy rainfall that poured down the stairs to the platforms. This caused disruptions on several metro connections.
Météo France also issued warnings for possible severe thunderstorms in eight departments in the south of the country. Code orange applies.
