5th exit for Premier League club
Grzegorz Krychowiak has used FIFA’s special transfer window to temporarily leave FK Krasnodar. The 32-year-old midfielder has joined Greek giants AEK Athens on loan with immediate effect, where he will stay at least until the end of the season.
Krychowiak has played in the Russian Premier League since 2018 and last summer he moved to Krasnodar after three years at Lokomotiv Moscow. His contract there, like that of seven foreign teammates, was suspended around two weeks ago. Since then, Wanderson (27), Júnior Alonso (29), Viktor Claesson (30) and Rémy Cabella (32) have also left the club.
Unlike Alonso, for example, who could have switched to ex-club CA Atlético under normal circumstances due to the transfer window in Brazil that was open until April, Krychowiak’s deal is only possible due to the special transfer window called by FIFA. This allows foreign players in Russia and Ukraine to suspend their contracts until the end of the season and temporarily move to countries where the transfer window is actually closed.
