Special: giant art photo gets sunflowers in Knokke-Heist

The photo is a gigantic and heavy canvas print of 105 x 68 meters and 3 tons of a man in a fire-resistant suit.

“You see one individual, a man in a fire suit, in a very confident posture,” explains Tellier. a completely different guise. In May the suit will be perforated and sunflowers will grow as the opposite of that self-assured man. The organic flower seeds will overpower him and eventually overgrow.”

Wim Tellier chose the sunflower as a symbol of modesty and as a wink to the sun. In a third stage, the entire fabric is recycled.

With his project CLOSER, Tellier draws attention to under- and overestimation, to corona, to climate change and apparent invincibility.

“My work is a form of ‘landscape art’: I integrate photos into environments to create installations. These are always accompanied by a conceptual message, which often contains something social and personal. If you have been working on such an installation for two or three years, it is of course a bonus that you personally support the message.” said Wim Tellier.

Can be viewed until September

Curious people are welcome from today until September 4, 2022 to see the progress of the art project. The canvas print is located on the meadow between Kalvekeetdijk 258 and the organic food forest of AZ Zeno and is freely accessible. A watchtower is provided. Wheelchair users enjoy the best view from the AZ Zeno parking lot.
