In the biathlon circus, Dorothea Wierer has been one of the biggest stars for many years. But the Italian can not only assert herself against her direct competitors, as a study in Italy has now found.
On behalf of the business newspaper “Milano Finanza”, the market research company “Nielsen” carried out a study to determine who the most influential Italian sports personalities are. For this purpose, the number of followers and the general satisfaction with the posts in the social networks were analyzed and a so-called engagement rate was calculated.
The result: Wierer is Italy’s most influential sportswoman with a score of 12,367.
In the end, the biathlete narrowly prevailed against alpine star Sofia Goggia. The “Speed Queen” achieved a value of 12,364 points. In the overall ranking, the two winter sports stars came in tenth and eleventh. Wierer is the only athlete to make it into the top ten.
Wierer and Co. against football stars without a chance
As expected, the ranking is dominated by football stars. The Italian national player Federico Chiesa from Juventus Turin, who scored over 100,000 points, is enthroned in first place. Tennis player Matteo Berettini and soccer national goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnaruma follow on the other places.
A total of seven of the first ten places went to soccer stars. The only non-soccer player who made it into the top ten alongside Berettini and Wierer is tennis super talent Jannick Sinner, who ended up just ahead of Wierer.
With 614,000 followers, Wierer is one of the biathlon stars with the widest reach on the Instagram platform. For comparison: Germany’s Olympic champion Denise Herrmann-Wick has “only” 115,000 followers, overall World Cup winner Marte Olsbu Roiseland has 67,000.
