Before the start of coalition negotiations with the CDU, Berlin’s SPD leader Raed Saleh ruled out a further extension of Autobahn 100 to the east.
“The SPD has made a clear party conference decision against the A100 extension beyond the 16th construction phase. I expressly support him,” said Saleh, who is also the leader of the parliamentary group, the “Tagesspiegel”. In June 2022, the SPD spoke out by a large majority against the further construction of the A100 city motorway in East Berlin.
The CDU and SPD in Berlin want to start coalition negotiations on Thursday. The CDU state chairman Kai Wegner, who would become the new governing mayor in the event of a black-red coalition, had said in interviews that he could imagine a referendum on the controversial extension of the A100.
Wegner also spoke out in favor of partial development of the area of the former airport in Tempelhof and for a referendum on this.
Saleh reacted reluctantly to the suggestion. “My party is in favor of careful peripheral development. Personally, I take a rather critical view of building on Tempelhofer Feld.” The instrument of a referendum should also not be used in an inflationary manner.
