SPD calls on FDP to say yes to EU supply chain law

The SPD in the Bundestag has called on the FDP to withdraw its rejection of the planned European supply chain law.

“With its rejection of the European supply chain law, the FDP is simultaneously rejecting fair competitive conditions for the German economy,” said SPD parliamentary group deputy Dagmar Schmidt on Thursday in Berlin. It had previously been said from government circles that the FDP-led Ministers of Justice and Finance were not supportive. This means that the planned law threatens to fail.

Schmidt said: “In doing so, we are also losing our trust at the European level.” In the coalition agreement, the traffic light agreed to support an effective EU supply chain law, provided it does not overwhelm small and medium-sized companies. “Many companies have already adapted to this and welcome the law,” said Schmidt. “I call on the responsible FDP ministers to give up their blockade stance, protect human rights and clear the way for fair competition throughout the EU.” (dpa)
