Spar move brings Koopmansplein in Assen even more into the Christmas spirit

This year there is a special Christmas tree on the Koopmansplein in Assen. One that comes from the garden of the Ter Veen family from Amen. Planted about 24 years ago as a tree of less than two meters by Lourens ter Veen’s mother-in-law.

In recent years, the tree has grown into a large spruce about 15 meters high. “Yes, that tree had to go,” says Ter Veen as he watches the tree being cut down. “And then I called the municipality of Assen, don’t you want it for the Koopmansplein during the holidays? And they wanted that.”

Yesterday morning it was time and the tree was carefully cut down. “It must not fall over, of course, because then the branches will be damaged,” explains Bert Klok of Hartenhof. “So we grab it, saw it through and then lift that tree up like that.”

After that it is just a matter of carefully placing it on a low-loader and driving to Assen. There the tree, with lights, has been given a place next to the temporary ice rink. “Of course we will have a look with the family, and then enjoy a Glühweintje,” says Ter Veen. Klok will also look at the tree there in the coming weeks. Laughing: “Yes, with a Berenburg in hand.
