Two days after the Beijing Olympics, another doping case has come out. The international testing agency ITA, which conducted the doping investigation during the Winter Games in China, reports that Spanish figure skater Laura Barquero has tested positive for a banned substance.

The 20-year-old from Madrid was tested after Friday’s short freestyle in the pair riding. A day later, Barquero also took part in the free freestyle with her partner Marco Zandron. The Spanish duo finished in eleventh place with a score of 181.36 points. The gold went to Sui Wenjing and Han Cong from China (239.88).

The Spanish figure skater has the right to request analysis of the B sample. The ITA refers the case to the anti-doping committee of the International Sports Tribunal CAS.

During the Games, a cross-country skier and bobsledder from Ukraine and an Iranian skier tested positive for doping. The most high-profile case was that of the Russian figure fighter Kamila Valieva. Shortly after the country competition won by Russia in Beijing, it was revealed that the 15-year-old Russian had taken a positive test at the end of last year. Valieva was nevertheless allowed to participate in the individual tournament, but the top favorite ended up overcome by the pressure and emotions next to the podium (fourth).
