It is estimated that the boy was alone in the car for about six hours before anyone noticed the situation. The incident took place on Thursday in the municipality of O Porrino, located in the Galicia region of northwestern Spain.

The town hall has announced that there will be three days of mourning. A minute’s silence was already held. A local festival has also been canceled due to the news.

According to local sources, the mother had forgotten to drop her son off at kindergarten before going to work. She parked her car near her workplace in Torneiros around 10 a.m., leaving her sleeping son in a child seat in the car.

At around 4 p.m., the alarm was raised when the child’s father went to kindergarten and found that his son was not present. Emergency services quickly arrived on the scene, but could do nothing to save the child’s life. He was pronounced dead on the spot.
