Spanish athletics paid this Saturday, during the national indoor championships, a tribute to the victims of the sinking of the fishing boat Vila de Pitanxo in Newfoundland, among whom was a brother of Jean Marie Okututen times long jump champion of Spain.
During the morning session on Saturday in the Expourense pavilion, a minute of silence was observed while the video scoreboard reflected a message of solidarity with the victims and their families.
“In this special moment of the Spanish Athletics Championship we want to show our deepest feelings for the shipwreck of the Vila de Pitanxo marine ship in Newfoundland, where so many sailors from Morrazo, Ghana or Peru lost their lives”.
“We want to show solidarity with their families and relatives, and we request a minute of silence to express the pain of this athletic family that feels affected by the tragedy that sometimes shakes the people of the sea,” the poster read.
