The water polo players from Spandau 04 want to say goodbye to the Champions League with a success and also make amends for the bankruptcy in the cup final in front of their home crowd.
This Tuesday (7 p.m.) the Berliners will welcome Red Star Belgrade in the Schöneberg swimming pool. The guests are eighth and last in the main round group B, Spandau is sixth. Both have no chance of reaching the final tournament with a total of eight teams.
The Serbs have only managed one win this Champions League season – at the end of October last year they won 12:9 against Spandau of all places. After the poor performance in the final defeat of Spandau against Waspo Hannover (9:17) on Saturday, every player had to “grab their little slits and show that that wasn’t our true face,” demanded manager Peter Röhle.
