Spandau district fells 147-year-old beech tree

When the copper beech was planted at what is now the Cladow Center in 1875, it was eleven years before Carl Benz invented the car. Today – 147 years later – the tree has to be felled

The copper beech is not only old, but also sick. Fungi on the trunk and in the crown endanger the stability. There is a high risk that the tree will one day fall over.

Before the start of the growing season, that leaves district office Cut back the crown by about 30 percent. In late summer, skilled workers arrive with chainsaws.

A sad event for Environment City Councilor Thorsten Schatz (39, CDU). He promises: “We will plant a new copper beech at this point in autumn 2022.”
