Spanish striker Borja Iglesias from Betis Sevilla has launched an ironic campaign for the right to sexual self-determination.
“Hello, I’m Borja Iglesias and I’m straight,” he said in a video posted on social media.
Then fictitious newspaper headlines are played. “Borja Iglesias has his coming out” or “El Panda breaks the great taboo of football” and “The first footballer to come out”.
This is followed by fictitious, wild insults and insults on social media, which people who are not heterosexual often have to endure.
“Fucking hetero, get off my team!” or “What a shame! And what an example for the children” or “Disgusting”. Well-known Spanish journalists also take part.
“He was insulted just because he admitted that he likes women,” says one of the media representatives, as in a report. At the end of the video Iglesias appears again and says: “That would never happen? And why the other one?”?
Iglesias and team-mate Aitor Ruibal recently became the target of savage attacks and insults themselves after appearing at a friend’s wedding party carrying women’s handbags.
Borja’s reply: “For those of you who are still in the early history, I send a lot of courage. It must be very difficult not to develop and limit yourself instead of enjoying how precious life is.”
